School Curriculum

The whole approach to developing young people aged 3 to 16 is in a time of change. At Nottage we have been working collaboratively with many other schools and organisations to develop and enrich this new curriculum. We are extremely excited with this new approach and how our Nottage Curriculum is continually evolving.

The Curriculum for Wales has a greater emphasis on equipping young people for life. It builds a foundation for pupils that develops their ability to learn new skills and apply their subject knowledge more positively and creatively.

The core purpose of the new Curriculum for Wales is to support our children and young people to be:

  • ambitious, capable learners, ready to learn throughout their lives
  • enterprising, creative contributors, ready to play a full part in life and work
  • ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the world
  • healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.

The new Curriculum for Wales has six Areas of Learning and Experience (AoLE):

  • Expressive arts
  • Health and well-being
  • Humanities
  • Languages, literacy and communication
  • Mathematics and numeracy
  • Science and technology

It also includes three cross-curricular responsibilities: literacy, numeracy and digital competence.

To assist us in developing these learning opportunities for our pupils, we have built relationships with many organisations and industrial partners to enrich the pupil experience. These include but are not limited to:

What We Are Proud Of

Growth Mindset Philosophy

We wholeheartedly believe that all children can achieve, we just have different starting points

Enriched Curriculum

We are very fortunate to have a staff of experts in various fields that assists us in enriching our curriculum. This includes: using the locality, onsite enrichment through external companies and partners, off site visits and residential trips

STEM

To inspire the next generation of Engineers and Scientists, we utilise projects such as the Green Goblin Car competition and links with industrial partners such as Renishaw to enrich our Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics curriculum

A School for All

Our inclusive and ALN based philosophy with supported individualised education at its heart

Developing Teachers and
Leaders of the Future

As a school we have a philosophy of continual professional development of our staff. We are privileged to be a Lead Training School for Cardiff Metropolitan University for their PGCE and BA Ed teaching students

Curriculum for Wales

We are an adaptive, creative thinking, risk taking staff who are willing to think outside the box to provide the very best education for our pupils
